Research and development of new control architecture for riveting machines and electric presses

Project co-financed by the European Union. Europe feels.

  • Proyecto AGME CDTI cofinanciado Unión Europea
  • Mejora arquitectura de control prensas y remachadoras eléctricas

This project focuses on the research, design, and development of a new hardware and software architecture for AGME’s electric presses and servo riveting machines, with the aim of achieving a faster, more compact, and more efficient mahcine. The objectives include improving the current hardware architecture, adding new process and production data management functionalities, optimising force control, integrating direct HMI–servo communication, and preparing the system for the future application of artificial intelligence.

The total investment amounts to €653,359, with EU funding of €216,687.67, and is being developed in Eibar between July 2023 and December 2024.

Results
The new control system enables AGME to offer more technologically advanced and competitive riveting machines and presses, particularly in its UCC units. Key improvements include:

  • Integrated HMI accessible via web server.
  • New program editor and flexible motion sequences.
  • Profinet communication, expandable to other fieldbus systems.
  • External monitoring through cloud platform and mobile application.
  • Major advances in closed-loop force control, reducing sampling times, improving stability precision, and significantly minimising overshoot.

In conclusion, the project has been highly successful. Thanks to the support of the EU and the Spanish CDTI, AGME now offers innovative machines that strengthen competitiveness, drive the sales of electric units, and reinforce the company’s commitment to sustainability.
